There many reasons why we may want to sign up a first aid course and learn skills that may one day save someone’s life. We may want to learn first aid because we believe it to be an essential life skill to have, we may be the nominated first aider in our work place, or be members of clubs and organisations, such as youth or sport, where the presence of a first aider is mandatory. Most first aid training organisations give a good grounding for new first aiders with a basic training course. There are also other more advanced first aid courses such as the standard certificate which teaches you how to deal with emergencies for both adults and children. Whatever type of first aid training course you seek to enrol on will depend on the level of competence you are seeking to acquire plus the type of first aid skills you want to specialise in.

For those people who are the nominated first aider at their place of employment, there are specialist courses available which helps them develop both theoretical and hands on skills.

Looking at more specialised first training, there is the practical life saving course which is geared towards avoiding fatalities through shock or blood loss as well as teaching resuscitation.

Some organisations also provide much more specialist first aid courses. Outdoor instructors, teachers, field scientists, expeditionary may require training in outdoor settings. These are often organised at remote locations such as mountain, adventure and water centres. The training is geared towards injuries that may occur when engaging in such activities.

First aiders, as well continuing to learn new skills, should be prepared to freshen up on those they already have, so it is essential that refresher first aid courses are also available.
